The 4-GET-IT Board Editor
First off, We'd like to say that this Board editor is potentially
dangerous... You can create boards that can not be solved or that lead
to odd things happening in the game. You're the only person responsible
for any boards you create with the Board Editor -- not us. There...
You've been warned. (Actually, it's quite easy and fun to use...
we used it to create over 300 boards so it can't be that bad :) ).
You'll need "req.library" to run this program so I suggest you
install it if you haven't already. It's in with this archive and you
have to do it all yourself... Remember, we don't officially support this
board editor and it's provided "AS IS" along with the game. If you're
daring enough to use this, you should know how to copy a library into
LIBS: !!!!
To run the Board Editor, simply double click on its icon or run it
from the CLI. You will then have the option screen loaded. Click on
the appropriate gadget for your function and you're off.
The following features are supported:
LEVEL FUNCTIONS
Title Enter a new title for the level
Password Enter a new password for the level
Time Enter time in seconds to complete the level
Previous Edit the previous level in a multi-level file
Number Enter a level number to jump to in a multi-level file
Next Edit the next level in a multi-level file
Insert Insert a blank level after the current level. If you
are at the first level, you have the option to insert
a level in front of the first level.
Delete Remove a level from a multi-level file
Save Save a single board. If you name the board "test.board"
and put it in the same directory as 4-GET-IT, the board
will be loaded as the first board of the game and you can
test the board quickly that way.
Load Load a single board
MULTI-LEVEL FUNCTIONS
LOAD ALL Load a multi-level file. There is a sample level file
of the levels included with the demo of 4-GET-IT for you
to load and play with.
SAVE ALL Save a multi-level file
SAVE GAME Save a multi-level file in a format that can be read by
the game 4-GET-IT. You should name the file something
like "4GETLEVELS.XXXX" where XXXX are any 4 alphabetic
characters in upper case you like. Then to load the
game, type "LOADXXXX" at the password prompt (substitute
your level name for XXXX). If the file is in the same
directory that 4-GET-IT was run from, it will be loaded
and the levels can be played.
Note: Once you "SAVE GAME" a file, you can not load that
file into the editor again. This protects you from having
other people modify the levels you created.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
EXIT QUITs the program
EDIT Allows you to edit the current level. There are three
gadgets at the bottom of the editing screen.
Clicking on the "?" gadget will return you to the main screen.
Clicking on the "^" gadget will allow you to select new tiles.
The last gadget is the current tile and cannot be selected.
To edit a board, simply "paint" with the left mouse button
to lay down the current tile. Then select new tiles and repeat
until done. Then select "?" to return to the main screen.
Don't forget to save your work.
Remember: Different tiles have different functions so be
careful with which tiles you use (and please test all your
boards before sharing them with others -- nothing's worse
than a level that can't be solved).
This board editor is fully multitasking and uses very little CPU
time. It will run on any Amiga with 512K. You can even run it at the
same time as 4-GET-IT (well, 4-GET-IT takes over your Amiga but you can
leave things running in the background).
This board editor may be distributed independently of the actual
game 4-GET-IT as long as this doc file is included with it.
